My husband and I love the summer in DC! Throughout the warmest months of the year, you can find us crawling all over the city, lugging around picnic baskets filled with delicious fruits, cheeses, wines, and treats. We love seeing all of the tourists flocking here from everywhere in the world, wandering around the monuments as they’re lighting up at dusk, and catching every free show that’s available to us. If you live in the metro area, you might be interested to know that the 10th annual DC Jazz Festival is officially beginning tomorrow. While many of the events hosted by the non-profit cultural organization will be ticketed, you will have plenty of opportunities to catch free shows! I know without a doubt that I will be at Yards Park this Friday for the free Jazz at the Capitol Waterfront performance by Frederic Yonnet and Akua Allrich. Akua is a DC-native, so be sure to attend and support the local music scene! Don’t forget to check out the website for a list of all of the Jazz in the ‘Hood events as well. There will be 66 shows this week at a variety of venues, ranging from Twins Jazz to Tryst to Children’s National Health Center. Click the title of this blog post for more information on the events. Maybe I’ll run into you there!
